December 2, 2023 Update – The Internet and GuysWithRides.com never forget a cool ride offered for sale. Shortly after we first featured this 1953 Mercury Monterey Woodie Wgaon for sale in the fall of 2021, we assumed the car’s expired and unreplaced Craigslist ad meant the car quickly sold for the original asking price of $40,000. Fast forward two years later and we found the same seller is offering their Mercury once again, only this time with a $35,000 asking price.
November 2, 2021 Update – We just confirmed the listing for this “Classifind” expired, so with no replacement found, we’re assuming this ride “Sold?” until we come across a replacement listing.

Similarly, the Collector Car Market Review Online Tool reveals the seller’s ask falls between this guide’s #2 “Very Good” estimate of $32,300 and its #1 “Excellent” appraisal of $42,900.

“1953 9-passenger Station wagon. The last year of the real maple wood. Last year of the Flathead engine. Completely rebuilt engine with Red’s headers. Overdrive transmission with Mercomatic hi-gear rear end. Complete correct reupholstry. The belt line woodgrain was color-matched and could be the most correct 53 in existence. I worked 20 years on this on and off and never used. I’ve lowered the price several times. I seem to have a Hanger with a few too many old cars.”

“1953 Mercury Monterey. The last year of the real wood wagon. Maple. The Flathead engine was rebuilt. Overdrive transmission with a higher ratio rear end. Converted to 12 volts. The interior was restored except for the 3rd seat, which is nice but not inside the car. It’s a rare radio delete. Deluxe steering wheel. issues are no heater motor and a noisy speedometer. Our driving days are coming to an end and I’m supposed to have fewer vehicles, I might be interested in a trade deal.”
