Guess What Ride 69 - Chevy Pickup Generation Sort

Think you know classic cars? GuessWhatRide? is a quiz on GuysWithRides.com designed to test your knowledge of classic rides.

General Motors designers often assigned internal names to each generation of post-World War II pickup lines.  Names such as “Task Force,” “Rounded Line,” “Action Line,” “C/K,” and “GMT400” became synonymous with enthusiasts and designers alike.

The picture shown features images of five generations of Chevrolet pickups, each accompanied by a corresponding letter.  Pick your answer from the multiple-choice answers provided below.  All correct answers will be entered in a drawing for a $50 Harbor Freight Gift Card!

January 13, 2026 Update

We ran this quiz from December 30, 2025, through 11:59 PM on Monday, January 12, 2026.

The Answer: “Rounded Line,” Not “Square Body”

Here’s the truth: General Motors’ internal code name for the 1973-1987 generation of Chevrolet and GMC light-duty trucks was actually “Rounded Line.”

When these trucks debuted, they featured subtle curves designed to improve styling and aerodynamics compared to their boxy predecessors. At the time, they looked sleeker and more modern. But fast forward forty years, and what seemed aerodynamic in the 1970s now looks pretty boxy by today’s standards. That’s how the popular “Square Body” nickname came about—even though it wasn’t GM’s original name.

Quiz Results

Only 45% of respondents correctly selected “None of the Above” on their first try. From those correct answers, we randomly selected Ride Tribe member Larry S. as the winner of a $50 Harbor Freight Gift Card. Congratulations, Larry!
